12 hours on your feet - forward motion -walk run - move forward.
I spent the two days before eating well and resting a lot - the day before I had 15 blocks on the zone so 3 more than I normally eat. Good slow carbs. Well, in slice of white pizza (!!!!!!) Anyway.
Saturday got up at 4:15 made breakfast. Oatmeal w blueberries and agave syrup, eggs and sausage.
Then I sat for a good half hour.
I had everything packed -
5:45 I left the house.
IT was slow in the beginning - the pack was heavy and my body did not want to run.
I headed to 116 and East side and took off North -
All the way up to Dyckman St was running and walking, mostly walking. but changing it up.
It is very quiet up along Harlem River and so beautiful.
Once I go to the west side I biker asked me how far I was going and I told him 12 hours - he nearly fell off his bike.....
Once on the west side it gets crowded - could be the time as well - but south of 96th street it is jam packed.
At the tip of Manhattan I had to fight the tourists but it is a lot to watch.
Around 35th street there is construction so I headed up 1st Ave, Past the UN and I stayed on 1st ave - If I was a faster runner I would try to head back to the path. But for today it was good.
As I got to 116 I had lapped Manhattan and I had done it in 10 hours - I know that people have done it in 6-7 hours - but they were already runners and had no back pack -just saying.....
I lapped Manhattan and then made some loops in Harlem.
128 to Lex - lex up to 143-143 to St Nicholas-St Nicholas to 153 - smelly stairs down to Bradhurst - Bradhurst south to 141 -
141 west to 5th ave - some small loops by the Armory until my 12 hours where up.
I ate bigger in the first 6 hours, drank apx every 20 mins.
I felt ok until about hour 11 so that is when I figure I ran out of calories
During my run/walk I ate:
4 eggs 3 bananas 1 protein shake w almond milk and blueberries chlorella and Spirulina, 2 hammer bars, 1 hammer bar recovery, 1 clif shot roks protein bites, GU chomps almost a package
3 liters of water 2 liters electrolytes
Water 2 coconut water, one bag of
Wilds chips (salty jerky made of elk and deer from Sweden)
I wanted to get 65 km(40,3 miles) so badly. Why, because that is more than one marathon and one half marathon....and technically I just completed my first Ultra(anything longer than a marathon)!!!!!!
And I did 65 km (.....slow but forward motion. )
I finished up at our Box where the BBQ was in full motion - got a few cheers and then coach sent me home to eat and recover - 'you're training'
Right - I forgot for a split second - but I was glad I went home -food- shower and some foam roller and magic stick not the kind sing about....the semi torture devise that gets gunk out of your system.
So to summarize Saturday
I got up real early.
I ate, I walked, I ran, I saw one dead bird, one dead mouse, about 40 alive squirrels within 2 feet of me, runners, bikers, inliners, walkers, strollers, tourists, a wedding picture session, 2 families living in cars and cooking breakfast on the bbq on the sidewalk, 5 block parties, adult bike school, helicopter, airplanes, clouds, I ate and drank, I cried, I smiled at the next 30 people I saw.....I made people smile, I meditated...I did was I set out to do.
Today I need a massage. And food.
Peace. Love. Crossfit. Life. Run
