| before we started |
So I had seen the challenge from CrossFit Parma - or it was more a picture on FB of the pre-programmed 42159m on the C2 and the word 'Anyone?'- I knew I had to do it.
Christmas has never really been my holiday - I always felt the food and the family was nice but the rest the shopping the stress and that was awful-so being that I am here alone for the moment I figured I would row.
Friday Coach Syn was telling me that I have to eat more carbs than I normally do....I was a bit worried about this but I ate the good carbs ----the oatmeal- potatoes -rice.....Lara bars.....
I went by CrossFit Harlem and went over technique on the rower.
Coach Syn corrected my form and stroke rate -
I know I know....a little late but better late than ever. I only gave him a day and a half to prep me for this. Although we have been rowing a lot - at least a 10k a week in one way shape or form...and with sliders, as a 2 man team and 3 man team.....so we have been working on it, but not with a marathon in mind ;).
To my delight 3 more people was rowing as well.
Coach Syn , Marc, and Terrence took on the challenge as well.
Saturday Dec 24th.
I ate 2 toasted bagels for breakfast....(I have not had bread since April.) We decided to meet at 7 AM to get going early....
We all took off at about 8AM.
I pulled around 18-20 strokes per minute on the Concept2 rower, we had gone over damper settings so I used 4 - my average on 500 was 2:28 but that was with me drinking and adjusting.....when I was pulling I was around 2:10-2:14 so I think that was real good settings for me. At times I pulled at a higher stroke rate but I always returned to the magical numbers and I think it really helped me endure and stay efficient.
The rowing felt fine until the last 3K - then things started to hurt a bit...but I was remarkably okay after the 3:28:48 on the rower.
915 cals per hour....I guess the bagles are long gone....
I went back to eating clean right after the row.
I want to thank Coach Syn for prepping me in a couple of days for this crazy adventure and for rowing it with me. And I would like to thank Marc and Terrence for throwing themselves in it as well and completing.
Peace. Love. CrossFit. Life. Happy Holidays.
